The N.W.N.U. is playing a leading role in the preparation of this collaborative publication. It will provide a snapshot of the mosses, liverworts, lichens, macro-fungi and algae, as well as of vascular plants, in the area between the Mersey and the Ribble. In doing so, it will provide naturalists, conservationists and planners with an essential means of assessing environmental impact and consequential change in one of the most ecologically diverse parts of Britain. The work is intended, not only for present-day naturalists, but also as a base-line census on which future generations will be able to build. Recording has now finished and records will be published as they become available.
